Returned Volunteers

VSO isn’t just about working overseas.
Back at home there are hundreds of people who, like you, have returned from volunteering overseas. They are engaging their communities in international issues and supporting VSO programs.
Global Citizens for Change: VSO is working in coalition with other international development organizations that believe in the power of volunteering for positive social change. Together, we are developing resources, holding events, reaching out to the media. If you would like to get involved, please contact [email protected] and type GCFG in the subject line. Participate in a Meet VSO night: VSO holds outreach events such as Meet VSOs in cities across Canada. Please contact if you are interested in holding a Meet VSO event.
Join the VSO Canada RV listserv: Get connected to other returned volunteers who are living in North America. Find out about events in your community and across North America. Learn about new resources for outreach on development issues. To join, email with "Join RV listserv" in the subject line.
Join a local group: VSO local groups are currently active in Vancouver, Edmonton, Toronto, Ottawa, Calgary and Halifax. Members organize and participate in a range of activities, from fundraising and outreach to informal social events. To find out more email with "Local Group?" in the subject line.
Resettlement Program: There are more than 750 returned volunteers and living across North America, and if you have volunteered overseas through VSO at any time since 1958 and haven't connected with VSO in a while, please send your current contact information to VSO Canada's .
Resettlement Workshops: All returned volunteers are invited to attend a Resettlement Workshop at VSO’s training center in Ottawa,- usually scheduled 3 - 12 months after you return to North America from your placement. Contact the to find out about upcoming Resettlement Workshops.
RV web resources: Access information and resources through the new RV Zone available on the VSO UK website, or chat with other RVs through the RVs Connected web forum.
Global education and outreach: When volunteers return from a VSO placement, they are able to provide unique insights into the reality of life in developing countries, helping to increase understanding and action on development and global issues here in North America. We hope that you will consider continuing your involvement with VSO by participating in outreach and global education activities. Returned volunteers are eligible to apply for small grants to support their global education activities. Please complete a global education grant form.
