VSO is an international development agency that works through volunteers. Working with partner organizations in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe and the Pacific, VSO brings together people from different cultures and backgrounds, enabling them to share skills and learning. Since 1958, we have placed over 30,000 volunteers in more than 40 developing countries, working with local colleagues to build a fairer world.
VSO welcomes US volunteers
VSO is the largest independent volunteer-sending agency in the world and recruits volunteers of any nationality who live in the European Union, Canada, United States, Kenya, Uganda and the Philippines. So if you are a US permanent resident or citizen and you would like to be a VSO volunteer, you have come to the right place!
VSO Canada's process for applications, placement and support of volunteers is exactly the same for volunteers from US as for those from Canada. Currently around 10% of the volunteers we place are from the US (and we hope that number will grow) and there are hundreds of VSO Returned Volunteers now living in the US.
