The Organization of American States is one of the primary developmental organizations in the Caribbean, who’s mission is the alleviation of poverty in that region. This project entails spending one month in each of the following countries: Guyana, St. Kitts & Nevis, Grenada and St. Lucia. The employer has requested an intern to fill the position of Computer Systems Database-driven Web Developer. Working through the OAS at the Ministry of Tourism in each country, the intern will be responsible for researching available heritage tourism sites and attractions in each country and creating an inventory of these sites. The intern will be required to build a database-driven heritage tourism website in each country and to train personnel in the use and maintenance of the websites and databases.
The National Centre for Educational Resource Development (NCERD) is the national institution responsible for curriculum development, education resource development and teacher training activities in Guyana. The Centre has requested an intern to fill the position of Computer Hardware Technician, focusing primarily on technical troubleshooting at NCERD and at various schools throughout the country. The intern is responsible for delivering training programs to teach a cadre of resource people and school teachers to identify and solve computer hardware problems. The intern is required to provide support for schools or other educational institutions who are interested in networking their computers in many of the coastal areas of Guyana.
NAMIBIA - IT TechnicianSchoolNet Namibia was developed to establish a network among schools and allied educational institutions in Namibia, with the strategic and operational partnerships of Internet Service Providers, Telecom Namibia, Nampower, key government ministries and other partners. SchoolNet has requested an intern to fill the position of IT Technician to build capacity and networking knowledge at all levels and to explore creative ways to ensure the sustainability of school networking activities. Key responsibilities include establishing a Schoolnet database, assessing and extending Internet usage, setting up a LAN, and assisting staff in maintaining data management systems.
THAILAND – Computer Graphics TrainerThe Drum Publication Group was set up in 1998 to promote literature and address the need for educational materials in refugee camp schools along the Thai border. The Group has requested an intern to fill the position of Computer Graphics Trainer. The intern will be responsible for designing and modifying graphics for publication and inserting them into texts. The intern will train staff in scanning, downloading graphics, modifying graphics, and in using Adobe Photoshop and Pagemaker. The intern will also deliver one-on-one training to the computer operator at the Group, and some basic computer training to other staff members.
