International Opportunities in IT
VSO Canada is a member of
NetCorps Canada International - the Industry Canada-funded program bringing together a coalition of eight Canadian development agencies (VSO Canada, CUSO, Canada World Youth, Alternatives, Oxfam Quebec, Human Rights Internet, Canadian Crossroads International, Canadian Society for International Health) to match young interns with genuine Information Technology skills to placements where they can make a solid contribution to development work. This program is separate from VSO Canada's mainstream volunteer-sending program.
Who are the people NetCorps is looking for?
NetCorps looks for people who are willing to share their Information & Communication Technology (ICT) skills, to pass on what they have learned through their own education and work experience and who are prepared to learn from the people they will work with overseas. Specifically, you must be:
- A Canadian citizen or landed immigrant
- Between 19 and 30 at the start of the internship
- In possession of appropriate education, training or expertise in Computers or IT to undertake the six months
- Unemployed or underemployed prior to the internship
- Cleared by VSO's medical clearance process
- Selected according to VSO organizational procedures and specifications
- Willing to learn the language (as needed) of the host country
- Meet the job requirements of the organization with which you will work overseas
- Prepared to contribute to the cost of the internship via fund-raising or other means*
- Prepared to fulfill the Connecting Canadians component of the internship by volunteering a minimum of two weeks in a Canadian organization either prior to, or directly following, the internship. (Further details of this component will be provided by your Program Officer)
And
- You must not have previously participated in a Youth Employment Strategy (YES) program.
* Interns will be asked to contribute up to $500 through fund-raising
